To the Editor,
As previously noted, in spite of additional references quoted by Dr. Alavian besides his own, data about frequency of infection in the general population versus subjects at risk are very limited in some countries of this region. The journal has its own limitations for pages so that the final number of references was decreased to 98 from 115. In addition, ours was not a systematic review to discuss the trend of infection in at-risk groups or specific population of countries of this region or compare risk factors and frequency, but only a review article. "The prevalence of anti-HCV antibodies is 7.1% in HD population in a study in Iraq" is correct as mentioned in the original manuscript. As mentioned in the article, further studies with better laboratory facilities are needed in countries of this region to know about the exact disease burden.
