To the Editor,
The Lassa fever is an important emerging public health problem in Africa at present (2018). There is a possibility of a wide epidemic. The disease can result in hemorrhagic fever with a high mortality rate. Renal involvement is possible and not uncommon. Here, the authors try to summarize the magnitude of renal problem in Lassa fever based on the existed data in the previous reports. According to the literature, there are at least two reports on renal pathology in 27 fatal cases of Lassa fever.[3],[4] The renal pathology could be detected in all cases. The observed pathological findings include tubular necrosis, glomerular sclerosis, and interstitial nephritis, but there is no observation on ischemic pathology. For viral isolation, virus was detected in eight cases. Conclusively, the renal pathology is very common in the death cases of Lassa fever.
