Nanotechnology has become the new emerging technology at present. The effect of nanosubstance on human health is an interesting issue. The possible effect of nanosubstance on the renal system becomes an interesting issue in clinical nephrology. The effect of the nanosubstance on renal cell was firstly reported by Sereemaspun et al.[1] There are many recently published reports regarding the impaired renal function due to exposure to nanosubstance in animal model studies.[2],[3] Nevertheless, an important issue is the reliability of the renal function tests in cases with existing nanosubstance in blood. Here, the authors present the laboratory observation on the effect of gold nanoparticle on renal function tests. Overall, 100 blood samples were used for analysis. Each sample was separated into two parts; the first part without any manipulation and the second part with adding a droplet of gold nanoparticle solution. The renal function test (blood urea nitrogen and creatinine) was investigated using the same clinical chemistry analyzer in the same ISO certified medical laboratory. The comparison of the renal function test results between the two groups (samples with and without adding gold nanoparticle solution) was performed. The results of this investigation are shown in [Table 1]. There was a significant difference observed between the two groups. This finding shows that the gold nanoparticle solution is an important interference to the clinical chemistry analytical system. The interpretation of renal function in cases receiving nanoparticle such as those who are receiving novel nanotherapy has to be made with caution on the possible laboratory interference.{Table 1}
